External Season — The Early Performance Foundation of Grace And Grooves®

Before the formal launch of Grace And Grooves®, Hetal Joshi Nagaraj was already developing and presenting Indian dance performances in the DFW area. During the company’s formation period, students participated in approximately one-hour recital performance series, including Dil To Pagal Hai, a Gujarati Literature Series, and a Hrithik Roshan Series.

These performances formed an important External Season of Hetal Joshi Nagaraj’s early artistic work. These art works provided students with practical experience in Indian dance, choreography, rehearsals, costumes, stage presentation, performance discipline, and live audiences while the company itself was still being formally established.

From External Season to The Catalyst

The work developed during this External Season was later brought all the way into The Catalyst, a recital production presented through Dancers Workshop, formerly located in Lewisville, Texas. The Catalyst was directed by Ms. Barbara Mebane around a specific theme and concept within the broader dance genre. Hetal Joshi Nagaraj contributed and adapted her own independently developed work to fit the production’s concept, while also bringing her own audience to the performances.

Approximately 26 students from Hetal Joshi Nagaraj’s early Grace And Grooves® company-launch programs participated. For these students, The Catalyst became an early opportunity to experience a larger organized production while continuing their exclusive training and instruction under Hetal Joshi Nagaraj.

The production was presented at three locations: Denton, Texas, TCU, and Lewisville Grand Center, providing students with experience performing for different audiences and in different venues.

Indian Dance in American Dance-School Programs

During this period, students also participated in various Dancers Workshop demonstrations and city-level programs, presenting Indian and Indo-American dance within broader American dance programming, including themed presentations associated with the Michael Jackson series.

Some city-level programs required participating groups to have a registered company identity and EIN for scheduling and participation. Grace And Grooves® was still in the process of formal company formation, while the performances and student training were already underway.

The artistic work had already begun; the formal company structure followed.

Earlier Dancers Workshop Connection

Hetal Joshi Nagaraj’s relationship with Dancers Workshop began even earlier. From approximately 2008–2010, she occasionally rented the Dancers Workshop studio on weekends for additional student rehearsals and activities, particularly for students from the Universal Academy–Coppell program who needed additional practice opportunities and summer programs as students loved the dance instruction under Hetal Joshi Nagaraj.

Later, Hetal herself also participated as a “21+ Hip Hop Student” with her own group at Dancers Workshop, continuing her own dance education while simultaneously developing her choreography and teaching practice.

Infact, the mommy and me programs were triggered through Dancers Workshop Connection in 2012 as the institute offered these in one batch itself. These moms were moms who either wanted to dance-new dancers or had done some dance as part of their upbringing in their own days.

A Formative Chapter

The External Season → The Catalyst progression illustrates how Hetal Joshi Nagaraj’s early work developed from independent performance series into larger collaborative recital and production opportunities.

It helped establish the foundation for what would later become Grace And Grooves®’ approach towards G2 to cross culture platform on the following :

All of these, Hetal Joshi Nagaraj herself specialized in!

With this insight, she was/is welcomed by every American Studio to offer these and to collaborate for various projects. The indepth of technicalities and being able to write it, draw it, or clearly speak about it got the attention. This period is therefore best understood as a formative external performance season, followed by The Catalyst as a later external production opportunity—not as the origin of the External Season itself.

The company was registered much later in 2010-2012 Years. Since 2008, Hetal Joshi Nagaraj had plenty of these external seasons that would mount to American Local Studios, Several School Supplement Programs – because of her match of Hiphop, Indian, Non Indian-International and Indo-American Specialities.

These were predominantly held prior to 2010 or some performances seeded through 2019 and back then, just to participate in 1 program in certain city program or certain legitimate activities (non community programs) — group needed a name and EIN to do various other activities than just a mere recreational academy.

In 2020, Hetal Joshi Nagaraj was asked if she would like to take the place or the brand of Dancers Workshop but Hetal was looking to get one in Arlington and that was too far for them. Hetal’s other venue locations for a proper studio were Plano-Mcdermott–the exact place she was renting on weekend – Karate Studio. The other were – North Frisco, and Irving because of her independent student strength and several adults willing to do various activities on consistent basis. Karate Studio, next to Hathaway — she was about to sign the lease but then lockdown delayed the process and then somebody from leasing office’s own family itself got the studio for some gym workout franchise and the leasing agent was on sick leave so that was missed!

Hetal Joshi Nagaraj badly needed one in Arlington side because of her presence in Fortworth Areas – former owners of Nruthyakala Dance Academy and Mirchi Dance Academy collaborations from 2004. The collaborations were later bought by Hetal Joshi Nagaraj in 2015-2018 as the owners retired and their trained kids dance occassionally representing Hetal Joshi Nagaraj and became Elite Lines of Hetal Joshi Nagaraj in 2021– as they are in their mainstream career building life phase and cannot take up the full–responsibility.

In Lewisville, Hetal had her own kids anyway and were too young so she did not feel the need of studio in Lewisville in 2019 The latest grads too were too young as Hetal’s 90% of students are in dual fields and education-intellect as 1st priority. Lewisville was one of the latest location to have graduates! There is a phase for each, inevitably.

G2 Arlington mess, back to back fraud — stalled other location planning.

2020 – Dancers Workshop closed permanently in their 2nd generation!
